Tamil activists urge TN Govt to release Madhani
Pondicherry, Aug 12 (UNI) Several Tamil writers and Human Rights activists urged the Tamil Nadu Government to take immediate steps to release Abdul Nasar Madani who was arrested in connection with the Coimbatore blast case, considering his deteriorating health conditions.
In a joint statement signed by 42 Tamil writers and human rights activists, they urged the Tamil Nadu government to grant bail to Madani, who was lanquishing in the prison for eight years. They pointed out that due to severe diabetes and pain in joints and lumber region, he suffered a weight loss, put down to 54 KG from 104 KG. Even the artificial limb fitted to his right leg now requires modification.
Adequate medical facilities were not available inside the jail and even a private ayurvedic treatment centre has certified that it is ill-equipped to give treatment to him inside the prison. In such a condition, it is imperative that he should be provided treatment in a well equipped private hospital.
They also pointed out that the former Supreme Court Judge V R Krishna Iyer wrote to the previous Tamil Nadu government to release Madhani on bail and Kerala Chief Minister V S Achudanandan would meet his Tamil Nadu counter part to demand his release.
