Seven Lashkar militants among 13 killed, 4 ultra surrender in J

Srinagar, Aug 12 (UNI) Seven militants including a top commander of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and other militant outfits were among thirteen people killed while four ultras surrendered in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Security forces and police in a joint operation killed three militants at Kralgund this evening. Three AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

An security forces patrol opened fire at Nadihal Drugmulla in north Kashmir early this morning when they noticed some movement in the area, official sources said.

Later, during search bodies of Ghulam Mohiuddin and Robeena were recovered.

The sources said security forces opened fire after they suspected that they were militants.

People at Nadihal took to the streets after the bodies were handed over to their relatives by police.

The defence authorities have ordered an inquiry into these killing by troops due to mistaken identity in north Kashmir early today.

The army regrets the unfortunate incident, a defence ministry spokesman said, adding a probe has been ordered.

He said necessary compensation to the families of the deceased will be provided by the army.

The state government has announced ex-gratia payment and a job to a family member of the kin of the deceased The villagers of Boban in north Kashmir held a demonstration protesting against the alleged killing of a villager by the security forces.
