Kancheepuram, Aug 12 (UNI) Security at the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station has been further reinforced with the Coast Guard providing sea and air security.

Highly placed sources said the Coast Guard has pressed helicopters into service for aerial security.

The decision to strenghten the security arrangements was taken after a meeting between top officials of intelligence agencies, National Security Guard, paramilitary forces and the police yesterday.

The heightened security measures follow intelligence reports of specific terror threat to the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research and the atomic power station in the run up to the Independence Day on August 15.

About 2,000 police personnel will be involved in providing security to the atomic power complex housing both the facilities.

Close circuit cameras and metal detectors have been installed all along the route to the complex and intensive vehicle check underway.

Plainclothes policemen were keeping watch.

As many as 40 NSG commandos had been deployed at the complex.

The authorities have banned fishing at Kalpakkam, Mahabalipuram and Saturangapattinam for three days for security reasons.
