Rymbai appeals to militants to shun violence

Shillong, Aug 12 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister JD Rymbai today appealed to the militant organisations to shun violence and come forward for peace talks to facilitate the development of the state.

''The government would reiterate its appeal to militant organisations to shun violence and come to the negotiating table for peace talks'', Mr Rymbai said at the SOS village during its foundation day celebration.

The outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has called for a bandh on Independence Day from 6 PM of August 14 to 6 PM of August 15.

Mr Rymbai said that many state and central government projects worth crores have slowed down due to militancy.

He added that owing to 'lack of security', the projects have been stalled.

The state government has made all arrangements for the 60th Independence Day celebrations. Chief Minister JD Rymbai will hoist the national tri-colour at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex here.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up ahead of the Independence Day celebrations. The district administration has also promulgated section 144. UNI RRK SP KLC1856
