Rule of Law established in Bihar-Nitish
Patna, Aug 12 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said the law and order situation has improved since the NDA government came to power in the state.
Replying to the debate on law and order issue in the state assembly, Mr Kumar said the state restored security system and the industrialists, who migrated to elsewhere, were keen to return for fresh investments.
He also cited data for first six months-January to June since 2001 to 2006 and said the crime rate during NDA regime has gone down considerably.
The corresponding period in 2001- about 1851 people were murdered and 1916 in 2004, which came down to 1618 in 2006. Similarly 150 people were kidnapped for ransom during the period in 2001, 203 in 2002 whereas only 97 kidnapping were reported during the period in 2006.
The Opposition RJD members, however, rejected the claims of Mr Kumar and staged a walk out of the House.
He also referred to a letter of the Defence Minister written to him in which the latter had commended the constitution of State Auxilliary Police (SAP) on contract basis from army in Bihar and suggested other states to follow the footsteps.
Mr Kumar also pulled up the leaders for infusing politics among the government officers and said the achievement of the officers was being judged on the grounds of their performance and not on the basis of their caste.
He told the House that steel giant Ratan Tata had written him a letter showing keen interest for investment in Bihar.
He pointed towards the hue and cry over dissolution of Amir Das Commission by the Oppsotion and tried to purge off the controversy by saying that the decision for dissolution of the commission (constituted to probe a massacre) was taken during the President rule.
