Rains paralyse life in Pilgrim city of Puri
Puri, Aug 12 (UNI) Incessant rain today threw life out of gear in this pilgrim city as the roads were inundated under several feet of water.
The residents particularly those living in new settlements and in slums were the worst hit as the rain water flooded their dwellings.
About sixty percent of the ''Badadanda'', the arterial road of the city was flooded making difficult for the movement of vehicular traffic.
The Nabakalebar road, the entrance way to the city, Madhuban, Abakash lane, Sudarshan Nagar, Malisahi, Railway colony, and 28 slums were under several feet of rain water.
Sub Collector Bijay Kumar Naik said over 350 mm rainfall was recorded in the city during the last 24 hours city. Most of the public utility buildings remained flooded even though there was no rain this afternoon.
The police personnel in the reserve line were forced to take shelter in other facility as the water entered their barracks and the police vehicles were shifted when the depot was under knee dip water.
Rain water also flooded the headquarters hospital, Gopabandhu Ayurvedic medical college and hospital, district public information office, S.C.S.College, police line high school and the government girls school.
