New technologies should suit specific requirement, says Rajoria
Mysore, Aug 12 (UNI) Civil Engineering Division Board, New Delhi, Chairman K B Rajoria today opined that new technologies and materials should be developed keeping in mind the specific requirements of the field.
In his presidential address at the 22nd national convention of Civil Engineers here, organised by the Institutions of Engineers, he said new technologies and techniques could be adopted in the field of civil engineering in the country only if schedules, specifications testing methodology, contract conditions and workshop facilities were reviewed.
He called for innovative and forward-looking approach by goverment agencies as it played a vital role in most of the civil construction projects. Karnataka had taken the lead in public-private partnership, he pointed out.
Stating that Indian engineers were second to none in the world, he said ''Engineers of India orgin are considered superior and they are working at top level in developed countries. It has been established that services of engineers are important international trade commodity and the skill level of Indian engineers has to be accepted by developed countries.'' He said in India, at present, huge employment opportunities was generated by the construction industry. However, the technical skills of its workforce was one of the major problems, he lamented.
Inaugurating the two-day national conference on ''Water Resources planning, conservation and management,'' Institutions of Engineers President S C Naik cautioned that poor infrastructure in Bangalore and Mysore might lead to companies migrating to states like Tamil Nadu, Pune, West Bengal and Hyderabad.
He urged the state government to take urgent steps to meet infrastructure requirements ad control water pollution.
About 200 engineers across the country are participating in the convention and the recommendations would be sent to the both the Centre and State government for implementation.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who was to inaugurate the event, could not attend due to preoccupation with other engagements.
Eminent engineers Mahesh Tandon (New Delhi), N C Saxena (UP), S N Venkata Rao and K G Rangaraj (both from Karnataka) were honoured on the occassion for their contributions to the field of engineering.
