New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh today sought to distance himself from suspended Congress leader Natwar Singh, saying the former External Affairs minister's relations with the party and the Prime Minister following his indictment by the Pathak Authority in the oil-for-food scam was party's internal matter.

The Samajawadi Party leader also said his party neither offered its membership to Mr Natwar Singh nor did he himself express any desire for that, though he was welcome anytime he wanted to come.

He, however, admitted Mr Natwar Singh was offerred SP membership when he was suspended during the Narsimha Rao regime. ''But he had then returned our offer with thanks, saying he would always remain loyal to the Nehru family,'' he added.

Mr Amar Singh was addressing a press conference here, about 24 hours after Mr Natwar Singh had said that he would not say anything against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and regretted his ''language'' against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a comment made immediately after his suspension from the party.

The Samajwadi Party leader said the stand taken by Mr Natwar Singh against the Prime Minister and Ms Gandhi was an internal matter of the Congress, and that would not affect the Samajwadi Party's issue-based support to him.

''I am with Mr Natwar Singh on his reservations against the nuclear deal, his privilege motion, his bid to speak in Parliament to clarify his case, his objections to leakage of the Pathak committee Report,'' he added.

These are the issues on which the Left leaders and others have also supported Mr Natwar Singh and have been meeting him, the SP leader, said.

Referring to the findings of the Pathak Committee, he said he and his party were against the double standards applied in the case of the former External Affairs Minister.

''If Quattrocchi's crime is not the Congress High Command's crime, then why should Andaleep Sehgal's crime be Natwar's crime,'' he said.
