Nathpa Jhakri remains shut for 20th day

Shimla, Aug 12 (UNI) The public sector 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydel power project in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh remained shut for the 20th day today with the silt level still remaining high, a company official said.

The silt level was 8,320 ppm at Nathpa dam site, while the water discharge had come down to 1,033 cumecs from a high of 1,150 cumecs being recorded for the last few days.

The official said the discharge of Sutlej and Spiti Rivers was 287 and 267 cumecs respectively at Khab, while the silt level was recorded at 8,014 ppm and 3,000 ppm respectively.

The closure of the project had incurred a loss of over Rs 100 crore to the Central and the state government, which has 25 per cent stake in it, besides affecting power supply to the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, he added.
