IG, Assam Rifles appeals to end conflicts among Kuki tribes

Imphal, Aug 12 (UNI) Major General B S Ghotra, IG, Assam Rifles (South), has appealed to the Kuki militants operating in the state to stop killing each other.

The Major General said the Assam Rifles, to win over the hearts of the people, had started taking up civic action programmes in Manipur.

The force, he said, was helping women earn their livelihood and some innovative programmes had been undertaken to generate power in the hill areas.

The fund meant for civic action programme might be increased to about Rs 3 crores, the IG said. It was a small money for the entire state, he added. He said the local MLAs had been providing fund from their local area development funds to take up any developmental work.
