Corporators are finest example of 'self-rule' : Azad
Jammu Aug 12 (UNI) Describing corporators as finest example of self-rule, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad linked their democratic position as ''foremost spokespersons of their respective areas and vanguard leaders to project the demands and aspirations of people for development.'' ''In a democratic and decentralised system of governance the best kind of self-rule is to assure people to choose even their councilors in a free and fair election process,'' he said, addressing corporators at a meeting convened by them to convey gratitude to Mr Azad on his ''keen interest'' to strengthen the basic democratic institutions in the state. They also thanked the Chief Minister for enhancing the honorarium of corporators and councilors.
Assuring the corporators of maximum possible support to enable them to start development works in their areas, he asked them to accord priority to public demands and accelerate developmental works accordingly.
Promising them liberal funding for undertaking development works, the Chief Minister said that best way to project themselves as promising future leaders is to fulfill the promises of development they made to the public at the time of their elections.
The Chief Minister advised the corporators to practically work upon various public needs in their areas and implement works in right earnest, focusing special attention on the utility and quality aspects.
Giving thrust on upgrading and promoting tourism in the state, he said that for the first time since Independence, tourism has been accorded due recognition in Jammu. Tourism Development Authority would be created in all districts as well as tourism circuits to make Jammu a hub of tourism.
