Commercials banks credit grows by 31.3 pc : RBI

Mumbai, Aug 12 (UNI) Credit given by the scheduled commercial banks grew by 31.3 per cent from July 22, 2005 to July 28, 2006. The disbursements as on July 28, 2006 were Rs 15,56,917 crore as reported by RBI in its weekly statistical supplement today.

Out of Rs 15,56,917 crore disbursed as on July 28, 2006, an amount of Rs 36,076 crore was allocated to the food sector, while the balance Rs 15,20,841 crore was allocated to the non-food sector, said the RBI's supplement adding: ''the bank credit as on July 28, 2006 looked more tilted towards the non-food sector.'' On July 28, 2006, the credit-deposit ratio stood at 70.59, while cash-deposit ratio and investment deposit ratio were 6.01 and 34.72 respectively.

The total liabilities of the scheduled commercial banks to the banking system for the above period dropped considerably by Rs 12,490 crore to Rs 68,514 crore. On the other hand, their liabilities to others increased, up by Rs 7,77,895 crore to Rs 46,84,537 crore.
