Capital sweats under acute Sultry conditions

New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) Extreme sultry conditions prevailed in the capital today with bright sunlight and a sharp rise in humidity level leading to acute perspiration.

The sunlight, coupled with a sharp rise in humidity to 77 per cent, from 53 per cent yesterday, led to a rise in the maximum temperature from 36.5 degrees celsius to 37.0 degrees yesterday.

The minimum too rose to 27.7 degrees, from 26.0 degrees yesterday.

It is the third consecutive day that the capital is experiencing sultry conditions.

The weathermen say the rise in mercury over the last few days is due to the Sunny conditions, coupled with a continuing lull in rainfall activity in Delhi.

Barring a few spell of light showers this week and the last, Delhi has witnessed continuance of lull in rainfall activity over the last two weeks.

The lull in rainfall, since the heaviest rainfall of the Monsoon season on July 26, has led to a rise in mercury over the last couple of days. While on Wednesday, the maximum temperature rose to 35.3 degrees, from 33.7 degrees on Tuesday, it rose further to 37.1 degrees on Thursday.

The weather department has forecast that the warm and humid conditions could prevail for another day or two.

It have also forecast a partly cloudy sky with rain and undershowers in some areas in the next 24 hours.
