Asia largest sweat water lake Wullar will be developed in J

Srinagar, Aug 12 (UNI) Asia's largest sweat water lake ''Wullar'' would be developed as a backwater resort with small islands deep into the lake while the famous Zainalink would be restored to its original form.

This was decided at a meeting of the Wullar-Manasbal development Authority (WMDA) chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who is also the Tourism Minister.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Baig directed official concerned for seeking expert opinion and consultancy for developing and conserving world famous lakes of Wullar and Manasbal.

He directed Tourism Department for seeking guidance from the Central Government for execution of the backwater resort project at Wullar.

He also directed for seeking a survey report on Manasbal lake from INTAC within two months.

Mr Baig asked the officers to strictly observe the time schedule so that the works are executed within the time.

He also asked the concerned MLA's to give the list of areas to be included within the Wullar Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA) within one week.

The meeting was told that WMDA would be the largest among all the Development Authorities in the state.

The meeting observed that navigational facilities from Sringar to Manasbal can be developed and a number of places in the area can be developed as heritage sites.

The meeting was also told that Manasbal is a good place for water related activities like boating and water racing.

Encroachments on the Tourism land would be removed within 15 days, the meeting was informed.

Stressing the need for conserving the ecosystem of the two famous lakes, the Deputy Chief Minister directed for taking up de-silting at various places, construction of walkways along the banks so that the two lakes are protected from pollution.

He said he would be visiting the lakes for an on the spot assessment and asked for making concerted efforts to conserve these two historic lakes of the valley.
