Arjun Singh to inaugurate Urdu editors meet tomorrow
New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) More than 100 editors of Urdu dailies and periodicals from across the country will meet here tomorrow to discuss the problems plaguing Urdu journalism and evolve a mechanism to overcome them.
The conference will be inaugurated by Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh at the India Habitat Centre.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, Youth and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Iyer, Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will attend an interactive session with the editors.
Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande and film-maker Mahesh Bhatt are also among those who will be participating in the conference, according to its organiser, Navid Hamid of Movement for Empowerment of Muslims.
Mr Arjun Singh had been among those backing the cause of Urdu journalism in the country, which is facing severe problems, including lack of government support in the form of advertisements.
Among those participating in the conference are Mr Narender (Editor, 'Pratap'), Mr Shahid Latif (Editor, 'Inquilab') and Sheikh Manzoor Ahmed (Editor, UNI Urdu) and editors of reputed Urdu newspapers from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow and Srinagar.
