AIADMK members walkout protesting over alleged abuse

Chennai, Aug 12 (UNI) The main Opposition AIADMK today staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly demanding an apology from Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi rpt K Ponmudi for allegedly making an 'abusive' reference against their party member.

The AIADMK members came to the House, nearly one hour after being evicted on the orders of Speaker R Avudaiyappan after pandemonium broke out, raised the issue, and staged the walkout.

Earlier, after the AIADMK members were evicted, the House passed a resolution suspending Mr Agri S S Krishnamoorthy (AIADMK) for the rest of the budget session for allegedly abusing the Minister. The resolution was moved by Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition O Panneerselvam raised the issue and said the Speaker should remain neutral.

While two members were involved in the issue, the AIADMK member was punished by suspending him for the rest of the session, where as Mr Ponmudy was left scot free and sought to know what action the Speaker was going to take against the Minister.

Intervening, Leader of the House and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan said the decision to suspend Mr Agri Krishnamoorthy was unanimously taken by the House and the Speaker's ruling could not be debated.
