About 40 trained terrorists sneak into Doda-Udhampur

Udhampur Aug 12 (UNI) About 40 trained militants infiltrated from the other side of the border in Jammu and Kashmir and sheaked into the upper reaches of Doda-Udhampur to carry out subversive ctivities, police sources said.

Out of these militants, affililated to various outfits, about 15 are foreign mercenaries and most of them are Pakistani's. Besides this, the presence of some local militants in the area has also increased the worries of security forces.

Sources said as Independence day is approaching, a fear of possible militant strikes is looming large therefore, massive hunts have been launched in the area to avoid any untoward incidents, despite the tough hilly terrains.

Deputy Inspector of Police, Doda-Udhampur range, L T Mohanti, while interacting with mediapersons here yesterday, said the militants have been looking for soft targets to kill innocent people, especially the Hindu Community, to create a wave of terror among the hindus and to force them to migrate.

He said about five Hindu militants are operating in this range and most of them are hard core criminals who turned out to be militants to escape arrest. Citing an instance, he said one Kuldeep Singh, relative of a national political party leader is also operating in the area.

Mr Mohanty said security forces do not want to take any chances to accomplish the evil motives of the militant outfits on the occasion of Independence day. He said with inputs of a possible terror strike, security at all vulnerable points have been tightened.
