UP BPL families to get money for treatment, marriage, schooling
Lucknow, Aug 11 (UNI) The Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh today announced to provide financial assistance to Below Povery Line (BPL) families for medical treatment, daughter's marriage, scholarship and student's admission fee.
UP will spend over Rs 173 crore annually to help over 45,000 families and 3.5 lakh general category BPL students, which was earlier given to only SCs/STs.
According to the state cabinet meeting decision, chaired by Mr Yadav, now a BPL family can avail Rs 10,000 for the marriage of girl and Rs 2,000 each for treatment of an ailing person.
Similarly, a post-matric student would receive Rs 4,383 per year as scholarship and admission fee.
State chief secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai said here Rs 25 crore had been earmarked for the marriage and treatment schemes, while Rs 148 crore for the scholarship and admission fee schemes.
Under the marriage scheme, a family would be entitled to maximum of two daughters' marriage in a year, while the limit of treatment facilities would be Rs 2,000 per year per family member.
Altogether 22,500 families would benefit by the marriage scheme and 12,500 families in the medical treatment scheme.
Family having an annual income of Rs 25,546 in urban areas and Rs 19,884 in rural areas are entitled to be registered as BPL families in UP.
Mr Bajpai said under the scholarship and admission fee schemes, guidelines issued by the centre on providing scholarship to SC/ST students would be followed.
