Sultry conditions in Delhi persist
New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Sultry conditions continue to prevail in the capital for the second consecutive day with the Sun shining clear and bright and the lull in rainfall activity persisting.
Though North Easterly winds provided some relief from the heat, leading to a drop in maximum temperature to 36.5 degrees Celsius, from 37.1 degrees C yesterday, the Sunny weather, coupled with high humidity levels of 73 per cent, led to perspiring conditions for the second day.
The minimum temperature too dropped slightly to 26.0 degrees C, from 26.8 degrees C yesterday.
Meanwhile, the lull in rainfall activity continued.
Barring a few burst of light showers this week and last week, Delhi has witnessed continuance of lull in rainfall activity over the last two weeks.
The lull in the rainfall, since the heaviest rainfall of the Monsoon season on July 26, has led to a rise in mercury over the last couple of days. While on Wednesday, the maximum temperature rose to 35.3 degrees C, from 33.7 degrees C on Tuesday, it rose further to 37.1 degrees C yesterday.
Though the weather office has forecast a partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain and thundershowers in some areas in Delhi during the next 24 hours, the sultry weather is expected to continue for another day.
However, the weekend could see some rainfall activity with the North westwards movement of Monsoon system. Infact, Sunday could see the capital being hit by heavy rains.
With the well marked low pressure area over southwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood persisting, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rain falls at a few places was likely in Gujarat region, southeast Rajasthan and southwest Madhya Pradesh and isolated heavy to very heavy falls likely in Saurashtra and Kutch and Konkan and Goa during the next 48 hours. This, in turn could result in some heavy rainfall in areas of North West India, including Delhi.
