Rice hopes for Lebanon vote at UN today
Washington, Aug 11: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice hopes the United Nations will vote today on a resolution to end the bloodshed in Lebanon and Israel but her spokesman conceded there was ''still work to do.''
Rice left for New York early today for a round of meetings at the United Nations, where she will push for a breakthrough in negotiations to stop the conflict, which has killed more than 1,000 people in Lebanon and more than 120 Israelis.
''We still have work to do. We are getting closer, but we still have to close out a resolution. The secretary is going up with the hope of a vote later today,'' State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said just before leaving for New York with Rice.
