Restore "self-respect" by re-electing BJP in Goa: Rajnath

Panaji, Aug 11 (UNI) BJP chief Rajnath Singh today asked the party workers to woo the electorate at the grass roots level to ensure upholding ''self-respect'' of Goans by re-electing the BJP government in the upcoming elections.

He has also asked the Goans to teach a lesson to the Congress, which failed to upkeep the democratic institutions such as governors by encouraging dismissal of democratically-elected governments, disrespecting the collective people's verdict as it did in case of Manohar Parrikar government last year.

Addressing a largely attended meeting of the party workers in the city this evening, Mr Singh reminded the comment of the Supreme Court on the similar episode in Jharkhand saying, conduct of the Governor was fraud on the Constitution.

It was only the BJP ruled governments that continued to enforce strictly all Central schemes to the benefit of the masses like the pension scheme for the senior citizens and the disabled like in Parrikar's regime.

''We can become closer to the people as their servants, not as rulers,'' he said. He asked the workers to go to villages and fight for their genuine causes.

''My intuition says the BJP in Goa forms government in the coming elections by winning at least 30 out of 40 seats,'' he said reminding the workers of the good name Mr.Parrikar earned as good administrator.

He also recalled how the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has fought the colonial Portuguese rule in Goa and the oppression unleashed against the cadre by the then Central government which prevented the volunteers from entering Goa.

The BJP chief further elaborated the successful efforts of the Nationalist Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee in controlling terrorism in J&K unlike in the present politiacal dispensation that emboldened terrorists.

Earlier, former chief minister Manohar Parrikar and the party president Rajendra Arlekar castigated the Pratapsinh Rane government for its ''miserable failure in all fronts'', resulting in untold miseries to the common man.

While corruption has become a way of life, law and order also has become a casualty under the regime of Mr Rane who, Parrikar said, was fiddling like Nero when Curchorem was burning during recent communal riots.
