Probe into 1995 leakage of nuclear designs to US: Rajnath Singh
Panaji, Aug 11 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today sought an inquiry into the leakage of nuclear plans of India to the US in 1995.
Addressing a meeting of the party workers during his maiden visit to Goa this evening, the BJP chief observed that the recent Indo-US Nuclear Treaty was a ''big blow to the concept of self-reliance'' mooted by Vajpayee government.
The BJP, he said, continued to object strongly to the inspection of India's nuclear installations by three external agencies including the US administration and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
''But the BJP is for following the self-reliant model to make a Bharat that depends on its own intellectual resources to build a strong and rich nation with a sound knowledge economy based on the Information Technology and science and technology benefitting different sections of the society,'' Mr Singh said.
''The US has no business to decide what kind of protection India should have. Our government under the leadership of Mr Vajpayee never stooped its head to the US dictates as the United Prgressive Alliance (UPA) government did now. Even we allowed the scientists to conduct Pokhran-II nuclear tests,'' he said.
In 1995, then prime minister P V Narasinha Rao postponed the testing of the nuclear bomb with the intervention of the US leadership, whereas Mr Vajpayee told Mr Clinton about our national self-respect on his face and warned him not to threaten India,'' Mr Singh said.
''In fact, the Congress government should have ordered a probe into the leakage about India's nuclear designs in 1995 to the US,'' he said.
Lashing at the communists for engaging in ''proxy rule'' at the Centre, the BJP chief likened the reds to ''a shamil baja band party'', playing to the tune of the Congress for political expediency.
At the same time, Mr Singh charged the Congress with engaging in dooming all democratic institutions in the country such as governors besides ruining the economy, as a result of mounting corruption and lack of principles of self-reliance.
The communists had actually been dictating terms to the UPA government on foreign affairs and economy to the ruin of the country's vision of ''self-reliance'' proponded by the BJP throughout.
The Congress having tasted the failure of implementing the Russian model of planned economy, has now resorted to the US and German models of open economy, resulting in the worst ever inflation to break the backbone of the commonman, he said.
The inflation started mounting and prices of essential commodities zooming despite having expert economists like Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Dr Montek Ahluwalia.
The bad economic policies have resulted in crash of stock market after its meteoric rise with the government allowing ''online trading'', which the BJP had opposed, Mr Singh said.
The BJP alone is committed to uphold the principles of self-reliance for a prosperous and progressive India, not other parties as could be witnessed since the Independence, he pointed out.
''In fact, the BJP is the only national party that stands united in the country, unlike other national parties including the Congress and the Communists that continued to be divided many times over the years,'' Mr Singh added.
