Police, airport, 'Metro' on alert, but no specific threat

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Debunking reports of any 'specific threats' lurking in and around the Capital, in view of the 'US Embassy Advisory' of possible serial bomb attacks this morning, police here said no such threat perceptions were ''on the table''.

A senior police official, on condition of anonymity, said no such 'security alert' advisory has reached the Delhi Police so far.

''Already an alert situation is in place and everyday briefings to the police are being done on the evolving situations.'' Asked whether some, howsoever few, steps have been taken as an immediate aftermath of this advisory, the official said ''Some activity is there but nothing specific has come so far. This state of alert has been there for some time and with the Independence Day in sight already lot of very special measures are being put in place to prevent any untoward incident.'' Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary V K Duggal said info on terror activities was gathered from 'various other sources' other than intelligence agencies and appropriate action taken. Presently too the government was taking all possible action to ensure adequate security for the citizens.

Instructions have been given to Chief Secretaries to issue advisories to the general public on sensitising them over thorough verification of antecedents of tenants and buyers of vehicles, he said.

On the US Advisory and 'measures' taken as a follow-up, he termed the US embassy warning of possible terrorist attack in Delhi and Mumbai as ''innocuous'' saying, ''Its an internal matter of the US Embassy.'' The government will take action on the basis of the inputs provided by the embassy, he said adding added that ''everything required is being done.'' Home Ministry official spokesman later said a thorough review of security arrangements was being done and appropriate advisories to States were being issued.

''A constant watch is being kept on the situation and arrangements reviewed constantly,'' adding that ''there is no reason for any panic.'' Briefing mediapersons, Secretary Civil Aviation Ajay Prasad said denied that his ministry had received any ''specific information'' which could force any sort of an 'alert situation'.

''We are already on a very high level of security in place which cannot be further enhanced.'' MORE UNI AN RP BD1915
