PM arrives in Gujarat for aerial survey of Surat

Vadodara, Aug 11: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today left for Surat to undertake an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas of Gujarat, where the week-long floods have wreaked havoc and claimed several lives.

The Prime Minister arrived at the Vadodara Airport around 1815 hrs. He also had meeting with officials, who briefed him about the ground situation in Surat. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma.

The floods in the state had already claimed more than 100 lives.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited flood-affected Andhra Pradesh also.

Dr Singh was scheduled to visit Surat earlier in the day but the programme was revised due to inclement weather conditions.

The PM's visit comes close on the heels of a similar survey conducted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday.
