Panic continues as rain becomes active again in Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Aug 11 (UNI) Panic continued today among people residing on the banks of Panchaganga, Krishna and Warna rivers in Western Maharashtra's Kolhapur and Sangli districts as there was no sign of reduction in flood in the region with Rains becoming active again since last evening.
The water level of Panchaganga and Krishna rivers continues on the rise as there is no major improvement in the flood situation.
Water discharge by various dams into the river beds create further grim situation in the flood-affected areas.
The water level of the Rajaram weir on Panchaganga river near Kasaba-Bavada suburb today increased upto 45.7 feet as against the last night's height of 45.6 feet, while water level in Rajapur weir in the worst-affected Shirol tehsil, gone further up to the 55.6 feet mark, which was 54.9 feet yesterday. The Kurundwad bridge water level also increased up to 68.9 feet today in comparison to last evening's 67.9 feet mark, District Collector office sources said.
Kolhapur district recorded 1,076.6 mm rainfall during last 24 hours ending at 0800 hrs this morning in which Radhanagari tehsil recorded highest 189 mm rainfall, sources informed.
Water discharge from the dams continues as earlier and today 60.753 cusecs water is discharged from Koyana dam, Warna - 27.047 cusecs, Dhom - 11.274 cusecs, Radhanagari - 7,600 cusecs, Dudhganga - 8,500 cusecs, besides others, Irrigation Department sources informed.
The flood situation in Sangli district continues the same, where large number of flood-affected villagers have been shifted to safer places.
The process is on still, Sangli district flood control sources said.
