Nothing incriminating in unidentified baggage

Kolkata, Aug 11 (UNI) Nothing incriminating was discovered in the three bags which remained unidentified last Tuesday after the arrival of a Bangladesh Biman flight from Dhaka at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.

There was a bomb scare at the airport after an annonymous person warned by telephone that there were RDX explosives in two Biman flights arriving from Dhaka.

Following the call, passengers and baggage of all flights arriving from Bangladesh were searched.

The bags, which were opened today after being in the cooling pit for three days, revealed some garments and CD players.

"The bags were opened in the presence of personnel of the Airports Authority of India, customs, immigration authorities and CISF but nothing incriminating was found. Only some garments, mostly of ladies, were in the baggage," an official of the bomb detection and disposal squad of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security said.

Two owners of the baggage were also present.

The third persons was stated to be on a pilgrimage at Ajmer Sherrif.

"There were two CD players in one bag and some garments in the other which were handed over to customs authorities," Mr Kashinath Tripathi, commandant, CISF, NSCBI Airport, told UNI.

Airport sources said the bags belonged to couriers in Kolkata, who frequently flew to Hongkong to bring garments and toileteries for sale in the city.

They usually flew in Biman flights via Dhaka on cheap fares.
