More than half of Pakistanis see India as enemy: Report
New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Fifty-three per cent of Pakistanis see India as their enemy even as an overwhelming 89 per cent feel New Delhi is wrong in accusing Islamabad of exporting terrorism, according to an opinion poll conducted on behalf of the magazine Outlook.
Yet, a substantial majority -- 55 per cent -- of Pakistanis believe people-to-people contact between India and Pakistan has helped relations between the two countries, the report, published in the Independence Day Special issue of the magazine, said.
The opinion poll was conducted by Gallup Pakistan, an affiliate of Gallup International, Outlook said in a statement.
A high 60 per cent of Pakistanis think India-Pakistan relations are better under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh than they were under his predecessor Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
''Though 76 per cent of Pakistanis feel it's necessary to resolve the Kashmir issue first for peaceful Indo-Pak relations, 70 per cent are also sure India will never part with Kashmir.
Only 36 per cent of Pakistanis think the Kashmir issue can be resolved in their lifetime,'' the magazine said.
Interestingly, as against 29 per cent in 2003, a high 41 per cent Pakistanis were willing to accept the conversion of the Line of Control into an international border as a solution to the Kashmir problem.
According to the magazine, 50 per cent of Pakistanis believe the United States is closer to India than to Pakistan.
