Model rules will be framed for MBBS entrance exams in Asom
Guwahati, Aug 11 (UNI) The Asom government has decided to frame a set of model rules for conducting MBBS entrance examinations in the state for the benefit of the local children.
One man committee for framing these rules had already been appointed with the Joint Director of the Health Department Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora as its Chairman.
State Health Minister Himanta Bioswa Sarma told newsmen here today that the committee would collect and study rules of different state governments in this connection and submit its report to the state government. It would be accepted after a proper public debate.
He informed that the state government wanted a total reform in the MBBS entrance examination to avoid prevailing ill practices. This year during the admission period, 35 seats were kept withheld for various ''malpractices'', adopted during the MBBS entrance examinations in the state, he said.
14 of them had been referred to the Forensic department to verify the handwritings of the candidates. Other cases had been referred to the Deputy Commissioners to verify the Permanent Resident Certificates (PRC) and Caste Certificates as these seemed to be doubtful, the Minister said.
The government wanted to set up some super specialist departments in Guwahati Medical College and Rs 120 crore had been asked from the Centre for this purpose, he said.
The state government had also demanded creation of 5000 ANM posts as it had lack of manpower throughout the state. He informed that the Union Health Minister had reportedly agreed to the state government request and hopefully all these posts of ANM will be sanctioned soon.
The Health Minister informed that the state government had asked all the District Deputy Commissioners to collect samples of Coca Cola and other soft drinks and get those tested before banning these in the state.
