Indian workers rescued from racketeers
Dubai, Aug 11 (UNI) Two Indian workers from Uttar Pradesh, who were forced by recruitment racketeers to work in Iraq after being brought to Dubai on visit visas, escaped being sent to the war ravaged country following intervention by the Indian consulate here.
Kailesh Ram and Zakir Hussien had paid huge amounts of money to unscrupulous recruiting agents who brought them here to work, but when resisted from going to Iraq were beaten up.
A member of the Indian Community Welfare Committee said the two had overstayed here by two months, but at the request of the consulate the immigration authorities waived the fines, ''Khaleej Times'' reported.
The workers said the manpower agents removed the pages in the passport that were stamped with the Iraq travel ban and forge other travel documents.
Most workers brought to Dubai on a visit visa are compelled to go to Iraq on forged travel documents by the human traffickers.
