Inadequate relief measures in flood-hit areas of K'taka: Dharam

Bangalore, Aug 11 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Dharam Singh today charged the Government with not taking up adequate relief measures in the flood-hit districts of the State.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said the Government had released only Rs 13 crore for the purpose and just Rs two crore to his home district of Gulbarga as against Rs 41 crore released last year. The Government had a meagre Rs 128 crore under the Central Relief Fund.

Relief measures should start on a warfooting, he added.

Replying to queries on the Rs 150 crore bribery issue, Mr Singh took exception to Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushma Swaraj meeting suspended party MLC G Janardhana Reddy at Bellary and ''pressurising'' him to withdraw his charges against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The leader had no right to indulge in such acts as already an inquiry had been ordered into the charges, he said.

He observed that the Government was in peril, which had prompted Mr Kumaraswamy to call on senior BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his recent visit to New Delhi. He denied that the Congress was coming in the way of functioning of the coalition Government and said the problems were created by the coalition partners themselves.
