Hot weather conditions in Punjab, Haryana
Chandigarh, Aug 11 (UNI) Hot weather conditions prevailed in most parts of north-west India today even as monsoon remained active in Himachal Pradesh.
The mercury hovered above normal in Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigar, Amritsar recorded 3.0 mm rainfall overnight.
Moderate to heavy rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, as monsoon remained active in the state, triggering fresh landslides.
All rivers, including the Beas, Sutlej Ravi and their tributaries flowing through the state were in spate following heavy rain in their catchment areas.
Gamroor with 76.8 mm rain was the wettest place in the state, followed by Sundernagar recording 60.0 mm, Pandoh 46.0 mm, Guler 39.5 mm, Sujanpur Tira 29.0 mm and Naudan 15.5 mm.
Moderate rain lashed Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Hamirpur and Shimla districts, disrupting traffic in interior areas. Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded 23.2 mm rain till this morning while Solang Nullah in the district measured 11.2 mm rainfall. Bhang-Manali, which also falls in Kullu district, registered 8.2 mm rain till morning.
Shimla and the tourist resorts of Wildflower, Naldehra and Kufri were also lashed by downpour. The capital town recorded 5.8 mm rain till this morning. Kalpa in Kinnaur district also experienced rainfall.
Hot and humid conditions persisted in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas where no rainfall activity took place. The city recorded the maximum temperature at 37.4 degrees celsius which was four degrees above normal.
The Met Office predicted moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and north-east parts of Punjab during the next 48 hours.
