Heavy downpour raise flood threat in south Rajasthan

Jaipur, Aug 11 (UNI) The Chittorgarh, Banswara and Jhalawar districts are experiencing heavy rains over the past few days with the threats of flood looming large.

The weather office recorded 195 mm rain in Arnod in Chittorgarh district. Nimbaheda in the same district recorded 102 mm rains till today morning.

Most places in Banswara are witnessing heavy downpour with Banswara itself recording 127 mm, Kesarpura 75 mm, Jagpura 140 mm, Pipalkot 149 mm, Salopat 127 mm , Sajjangarh 124 mm.

While Gangdhar in Jhalawar district recorded 100 mm and Asnawar 71 mm rain.

The district administration in Jhalawar and Chittorgarh have issued alert to evacuate low-lying colonies. Road blockades have occurred at many places in these districts.

Heavy showers are lashing most areas of Bhilwara district with Mukunda recording 93.5 mm, Mandalgarh 80 mm and Bhilwara 50 mm rains. One house collapsed in Nahargarh in Bhilwara district under incessant rains resulting in the death of mother-daughter duo on Thursday.

Rawatbhata recorded 83.6 mm rains while it was 18.8 mm in Kota.

The Kali Sindh river in Jhalawar district is flowing above the danger level and most canals, ponds, and lakes in the area are overflowing.

Reports from Jaisalmer say the continuous rains, which initially began from Saturday, have raised the spirits of the people here, who were awaiting the monsoons eagerly.

The weather office has cautioned of widespread and heavy rains in southern Rajasthan while north will experince scattered rains at many places over the next 24 hours.
