HC directs police for special team to probe Thoppumpady Case
Kochi, Aug 11 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the Director General of Police to constitute a special team for the further investigation of 'Thoppumpady sexual harassment case.' Mr Justice K R Udayanabhanu directed the police to hand over the materials so far collected to the special investigation team.
Opining that a CBI investigation was not necessary in the case, the High Court issued this order on a writ petition filed by Visalam, mother of the victim.
Police registered the case on the basis of information furnished by the victim on August 17, 2002 to the Mattanchery police.
In the writ petition it was alleged the police failed to conduct proper investigation into the case and the motive was to save certain important persons, including politicians and relegious leaders.
The court had earlier restrained the Deputy SP, who was incharge of investigation, from filing chargesheet in the case.
