Haryana Governor addresses Annual Day of IOD

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today said the state could emerge as a lead economic power in the world if sincere and dedicated efforts were made to utilise the work force and the natural resources available in the country.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the 17th Annual Day of Institute of Directors (IOD) here, the Governor said India had made considerable progress in modern science and technology as a result of which ''it was emerging as skilled scientific and technical manpower with great potential for industrial agricultural and bio-technological development.'' He said many foreign companies had set up their venture in the country as the cost of production in their countries was much more than in India and work done by Indians were of high quality.

''We have to work hard for 5 to 10 years to avail the opportunity of becoming lead economic power in the world. We should not let this chance to slip away as this will greatly improve the economic and financial position of our people,'' he noted.

Dr Kidwai praised the vision of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and Abdul Kalam Azad for laying the solid foundation of technical education after independence which has resulted in producing qualified engineers and scientists.

He reveled that due to quality education imparted by IITs, medical institutions and universities the youth of India is holding a prestigious position in the foreign country.

At present 35 per cent of the Indian Engineers are holding important position in Micro-soft, 25 per cent in IBM and 28 per cent of the total technical posts are being held by the scientists and engineers in NASA.

On the occasion, the Governor presented Golden Pea-cock Environment Leadership Award to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Fellowship Award to Mr Putil, MLA of Himachal Pradesh, 15 other people were also awarded on this occasion for their commendable works in different fields.
