Govt not considering to set up research-cum-hospital at Madurai
New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) The Government is not considering to set up a research-cum-hospital at Madurai on the lines of AIIMS.
Union Health Ministry Anbumani Ramadoss told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply the Government Medical College, Salem in Tamil Nadu will be upgraded under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
About the use of veterinary antiseptic on patients in Safdarjung hospital, he said the 5 per cent Providone Iodine IP solution was received in the hospital with efficacy certificate from government-approved laboratory.
The solution is used for human as well as veterinary purposes and there is no difference in the quality and strength, he added.
As a statutory provision, the label for use of human as well as veterinary should be indicated clearly on the bottle, the Health Minister said.
As soon as this came to the notice of the hospital authority the consignment was sent back, the entire cost was recovered and State Drug Control Authority, Drug Controller (General) India have been informed.
An inquiry has also been conducted by the hospital and staff concerned shifted from the store.
