Govt hit by 'Left paralytic stroke', says BJP
New Delhi, Aug 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today accused the government of suffering from a ''left paralytic stroke'' by not being able to take its pro-reforms policy ahead becasue of ''opposition from the Communists''.
This government is incapable of taking an independent decision,'' said BJP member Kharabela Swain during the discussion on the suplementary demands for grants 2006-07 in the Lok Sabha.
Mr Swain blamed Finance Minister P Chidambaram for shelving the disinvestment of public sector undertakings due to pressure from the Left parties.
''The UPA government is suffering from a Left paralytic stroke,'' he said referring to the Left oposition to the disinvstment in NALCO and Nayveli Liqnite Corporation.
Mr Swain said the only programme the government could take credit for during its more than two years of rule was the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which gives 100 days of jobs to one member each of poor families in the rural areas.
The BJP MP also criticised the government for ''slowing down'' the Golden Quadrilateral project for linking metros, a project initiated by the NDA government.
''Though they may give shining statistics, but the project has slowed down,'' Mr Swain said.
Earlier, congress member Naveen Jindal demanded a four-fold increase in the budget to Rs 2,000 crore for sports to prepare the country for winning more medals in Olympic Games.
