Former chairman of HLL passes away

Mumbai, Aug 11 (UNI) Former chairman of Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) V G Rajadhyaksha passed away of a cardiac arrest at Breach Candy Hospital here this morning.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son.

Mr Rajadhyaksha joined Unilever in 1948 at Port Sunlight and Warrington in UK as a trainee. He moved to HLL's Bombay factory in 1949.

He was appointed director of the company in 1965 and went on to become the Vice Chairman in 1968. He succeeded P L Tandon as Chairman the same year. He was chairman of the company from 1968-1973.

After his retirement from the company, he held several important positions such as Member of the Planning Commission, Government of India, Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board and was on the Board of several high level committees and public sector undertakings.

A postgraduate in Chemical Engineering from the Bombay University, Mr Rajadhyaksha held a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan, USA.

The mortal remains were cremated this afternoon at Mumbai.
