Flood death toll reaches 53 in Marathwada
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Aug 11 (UNI) The death toll in the rain-related incidents in Marathwada region of Maharashtra has reached 53, following two more deaths reported from the region in the last eight hours, official sources said here today.
Life continus to be grim for the flood-affected residents, especially those living on the banks of rivers in the region, since their houses continued to be submerged by the flood water.
According to information available at the divisional commissionerate here, Nanded was the worst affected district in the region, topping the list of casualities by registering 14 deaths in the last six days. It was followed by Jalna 12, Aurangabad 11, Parbhani seven, Beed and Latur four each and Osmanabad one.
The authorities have shifted about 19,196 families (99,507 people) from the 229 flood-affected villages in 21 tehsils in the last seven days so far, the sources said.
Flood situation in Nanded, Parbhani, Jalna and Beed continued to be grim due to the release of water from various dams in the region, such as Jayakwadi, Yeldari, Siddheshwar and Vishnupuri, the sources said.
The authorities have distributed a cash assistance of Rs 24.50 lakh to the next of the kin of the flood victims in the region till date official sources said.
