Eight persons including six college students acquitted
Mumbai, Aug 11 (UNI) A local court today acquitted eight persons including six college students of a Vikhroli college from the murder charges registered against them during August 2000.
Additional Sessions Judge Ashwini Kumar Deore acquitted all the eight arrested persons as ''no direct evidence'' was found against them in connection with the murder of 55-year old Shyam Sunder Vyas.
According to Defence counsel Vijay C Desai, the prosecution case was that a body having injury marks was recovered on June 12, 2000 under the Kanjur Marg Police station area. The prosecution was that accused persons had given Rs 50,000 to the victim who promised to supply in Gold Biscuits to them. Since the victim failed to fulfill the promise, the accused murdered him.
On the basis of some information police had arrested eight persons--Parag Kadam, Subash Damodar, Atul Donawate, Nitin Chavan, Hemant Parmar, Sachin Godse (all students) and Kamlesh Patil and Gajendra Karat.
