Don't let bureaucracy dilute RTI Act, says Infosys Chairman
Bangalore, Aug 11 (UNI) The bureaucracy is hell bent on diluting the Right to Information Act and people should fight tooth and nail to resist such a move, Infosys Chief Mentor and Chairman N R Narayana Murthy said today.
Responding to queries from people during a book release ceremony here, he called upon them to resist such 'ill designs' of the officials.
''The bureaucrats had always been against such an Act as it was detrimental to their interests. You should not keep quiet. You should fight back. If you give in, it will be the biggest defeat that citizens of this country could suffer,'' he said.
Mr Murthy said the UPA government should be congratulated for passing such a statute in Parliament. ''It was the duty of the people to protect it,'' he added.
Mr Murthy was releasing a book titled ''Evolution of Markets and Institutions: A Study of an Emerging Economy,'' written by Prof Murali Patibandla, Professor in Corporate Strategy and Policy, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
