Congress never knew about Natwar's "wrong doings" : Dr Singhvi
New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) The Congress Party tonight asserted that neither Congress President Sonia Gandhi nor the party knew about suspended Congress leader and former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh's "wrong doings" such as expanding the delegation to Iraq and using the official letter head.
AICC Spokesman Abishek Manu Singhvi told mediapersons at the party headquarters here that neithter Ms Gandhi nor the Party was ever informed by mr Natwar Singh that he had expanded the Congress delegation to include his son Jagat Singh and his relative Andaleeb Sehgal to Iraq in 2001.
Moreover, he never got the permission of the party or its President to use the party's letter head to write any letter to Iraqi Oil minister.
"I want to make absolutely clear...crystal clear... that as regards expanding the delegation to Iraq, he has absolutely no authorisation from Ms Gandhi or Party." "He has not sought any permission to write a letter in the letter head of the party to push projects for Sehgal or his son Jagat Singh," Mr Singhvi said.
"All that he says to the contrary is erroneous," he said, while accusing the former External Affairs Minister of speaking in two voices.
"If he does not feel sorry, he should stop speaking in two voices," Dr Singhvi said.
Asked if there is any possibility of a rapproachement with the suspended Congress leader, the AICC spokesman said he had been served a show cause notice as part of a proper disciplinary proceedings and a reply is expected.
"We cannot take his statements to the television as a reply," he added.
"Naturally, the party will take the next step in the light of the reply, if ever given." UNI SH VD RS2147
