Bhullar wins Royal Challenge Golden Greens Amateur
Gurgaon, Aug 11 (UNI) Kapurthala based Gaganjet Bhullar carded a final round of one over 73 to clinch the Royal Challenge Golden Greens Amateur Golf tournament here today.
This was Bhullar's third consecutive title on the amateur circuit. His tournament tally of one-under 287 was five strokes ahead of Anirban Lahiri who shot a 78 to finish second at four-over 292.
Joseph Chakola fired a two over 74 to finish third at 294, while Himmat Rai carded a final round of three over 75 to finish fourth at 297. Chirag Kumar shot a 74 to occupy the joint fifth position with Simarjeet Singh, Gagan Verma and Manav Jaini at 299.
Bhullar had a nightmarish start with four consecutive bogeys on the opening four holes. He recovered lost ground with birdies on the fifth and ninth to turn at two over. On his return leg, Bhullar fired consecutive birdies on the 14th and 15th. A bogey on the 17th didn't prove too costly, to clinch the title.
Lahiri had a dismal last round. He started with a bogey on the second, which was followed by a double bogey on the fourth, and bogeys on the seventh, 13th, 17th and 18th. His only birdie came on the 11th.
Joseph Chakola started with a bogey on the first hole, but a birdie on the fifth evened things out. However, four successive bogeys from sixth to nine saw him turn at four over.
On his return leg, Chakola fired birdies on the 11th, 12th and 16th to finish third.
