Zaheer manages one wicket, Surrey pile up 496 for 4 against Worcs

London, Aug 10 (UNI) Zaheer Khan struggled to find his rhythm on a tough day for Worcestershire and the Indian seamer managed to grab only one wicket as Surrey piled up 496 for four on the second day of the Division Two County Championship match at New Road.

The bowler, who made it to the list of probables for the Champions Trophy in October-November, bowled 27 overs and conceded 120 runs with only three maidens as Surrey toook control of the day.

Surrey had taken a lead of 192 at the end of the day courtesy some excellent batting by their top order.

Resuming on overnight 42 for no wicket, Surrey suffered their first blow after reaching 109 as Scott Newman departed for 64. His departure brought in Mark Ramprakash, who played a marathon innings of 196 to tilt the balance in Surrey's favour.

Ramprakash combined with Jon Batty (104) to put on 157 for the second wicket and the duo sent the Worcestershire attack on a leather-hunt.

The former England player passed 2,000 first-class runs this season and hit 27 fours before being caught by Phil Jacques of the last ball of the day by Gareth Batty.

Ali Brown was not out at 110 after Zheer bagged the wicket of Mark Butcher, who faced 13 deliveries but failed to open his account.
