Water level recedes in Surat city
Ahmedabad, Aug 10 (UNI) Flood water in Surat city receded today after flooding the entire city for nearly last four-days.
Water flow from the Ukai dam came down to below six-lakh cusecs per second since this morning compared to seven-lakh cusecs yesterday and over 9-lakh on Tuesday.
With the receding water levels in heavily submerged areas, ranging from 5 to 20 feet for last four-day, the authorities are moving in with large quantities of relief and food materials to the affected areas.
According to official sources, the water level at Surat railway station area has shown remarkable improvement from 15 feet yesterday to 5 feet today.
With the improvement in situation, Gujarat Agriculture Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, who was camping outside Surat for last two days, managed to enter the city with three busloads of relief materials, official sources said.
Inflow of water into the Ukai Dam has reduced drastically. At 1000 hours today the inflow rate was 5.68 cusecs while outflow was at 6.23 cusecs, official sources added.
Meanwhile, official sources said that power supply will be restored only when the water recedes completely.
