Undertrial attempts suicide in Lucknow court
Lucknow, Aug 10 (UNI) An undertrial allegedly attempted to commit suicide by cutting his chest with a blade at the civil court premised here to protest harrassment in district jail.
Police said Salauddin, 25, an undertrial in a case under section 307 of IPC and Narcotics Act, tried to cut his chest with a blade.
He sustained grievous wounds.
The accused blamed the Lucknow district jailor of harrassment, and even charged officials with forcing inmates to supply narcotics inside the jail.
Salauddin had been admitted to Balrampur hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable.
The accused, alongwith other undertrials, was brought to the civil court for hearing of his case.
Rustam, another undertrial, who was witness to the incident, also supported Salauddin's statement, alleging the jailor was forcing the undertrails in different kinds of crime, including supply of drugs.
Meanwhile, state additional director general of police (Law and Order) Padman Singh said the incident was serious and a probe had been ordered to verify the allegations.
