Tripura requires Rs 300 crore as loan from JBIC

Agartala, Aug 10 (UNI) Tripura has requested a loan of Rs 300 crore from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) for creating jobs through different projects on the basis of forest wealth in the state.

The JBIC in its pre-loan process made detailed survey on the forest wealth and ways to utilise it. They will submit a report to the state government on August 30 and a final decision on sanctioning the loan would be taken after submission of the report, Forest Minister Jitendra Chowdhury said last night.

The state government was also trying to get loan from Germany as per the Indo-German cooperation on forest-based projects, the minister said adding if forest wealth was utilised properly then the living standard of this state could be considerably improved. The state government had sent the project report and the required loan about six months ago.

To make an on-the-spot study, a team of 18 specialists of different subjects visited the state from May and undertook survey work in forest divisions. The JBIC representatives will discuss with the state government regarding the loan amount of Rs 300 crore, the minister stated.
