Sunil enters Semis in World Cadet Boxing Championships

Jamshedpur, Aug 10 (UNI) Promising young pugilist Sunil entered the semifinals of the World Cadet Boxing Championships at Istanbul in Turkey last night, according to Secretary General of Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) Col P K Muralidharan Raja.

In the 50 kg weight category, Sunil knocked out his fancied opponent Allabergenov Abdulla of Uzbekistan on points 27:18 and assured himself of a medal.

Sunil was confidence personified against the Uzbek boxer as he built up a slender lead of 7:5 points at the end of the first round.

During the second round he consolidated his lead by throwing accurate straight left and right punches and ended the round at a score of 15:9 points. The third round was Sunil all the way and he went on to win at 20:14 points.

Earlier, during the pre-quarter finals, Sunil accounted for the hard hitting Sherstoboyev Ruslan of Kazakhstan on points 24:21.

Despite putting up excellent performances the other six Indian boxers lost in the earlier rounds.

It was celebration time for the Indian Camp as they had returned empty handed without a single medal at the World Cadet Championships during the past three years.
