Shinde beats Patil in junior boys Pune Dist TT tourney

Pune, Aug 10 (UNI) Unseeded Siddharath Shinde came back from behind to pip unseeded Rahul Patil in a fully-stretched struggle 14-16, 12-10, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7 and moved into the second round of the junior boys singles on the opening day of the Royal Connaught Boat Club (RCBC) hosted Pune District Table Tennis championship, which got underway at the club hall here today.

The incessant rains which had been lashing the city for the past week, has not dampened the enthusiasm of the participants as 300 entries have been confirmed in eleven events to be competed over the next six days.

The tournament assumes importance as it would serve as the basis to select the district teams to take part in the respective Maharashtra state championships.

The championship was formally inaugurated by RCBC president Ajay Bhave at an impressive inaugural ceremony.

Addressing the audience, Mr Bhave said the club would host the state championship, if alloted, later this year. RCBC general secretary Ajay Gujarati endorsing the views of Mr Bhave went a step further saying that the district championship would become a regular annual feature henceforth.

In yet another interesting tie in the same section, Pranav Phadnis put it across Parth Mehendale 11-8, 3-11, 8-11, 11-5 and 14-12.
