Sensex ends flat, closes at 11,149.17 points

Mumbai, Aug 10: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex) today closed four points up at 11,149.17, amidst strong volatility, as the Asian indices emerged dull and the nymex crude price crossed the US Dollar 76 per barrel mark.

However, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 1.20 points or 0.04 per cent to close at 3,260.10.

Besides, the Hang Seng index slipped 124.44 points or 0.72 per cent to close at 17,222.14, while the Nikkei 225 index was down 25.68 points or 0.16 per cent to close at 15,630.91.

The crude oil prices in the US market rose marginally after the data showed a steady decline in fuel supplies. The Nymex light crude oil for September series added 4 cents to US Dollar 76.35 per barrel.

All major indices on the BSE except Auto, FMCG and Oil&Gas were up in the green. The Midcap index grew 1.40 per cent to close at 4560.78 points and Smallcap index grew by 1.86 per cent to 5487.18 points.

Major gainers on the BSE index were- HDF up by 2.98 per cent to Rs 1,276.25, Cipla up by 2.13 per cent to Rs 237.00, Hindalco up by 2.04 per cent to Rs 167.45, Wipro up by 1.90 per cent to Rs 515.55, ICICI was up by 1.70 per cent to Rs 600.10, Bharti Airtel was up by 1.41 per cent to Rs 409.20, ACC up by 0.87 per cent to Rs 874.90, Reliance Energy up by 0.57 per cent to Rs 470.50, Infosys up by 0.39 per cent to Rs 1,707.75, NTPC up by 0.25 per cent to Rs 121.40.

Major losers on the index today were Bajaj Auto down by 2.06 per cent to Rs 2,629.30, Ranbaxy down by 1.71 per cent to Rs 393.15, ITC down by 1.43 per cent to Rs 176.20, ONGC down by 1.16 per cent to Rs 1,189.85, Satyam Computers was down by 1.10 per cent to Rs 756.75, Reliance Communications was down by 0.96 per cent to Rs 283.80, Hero Honda was down by 0.69 per cent to Rs 673.90, Tata Motors was down by 0.66 per cent to Rs 789/05, Reliance Industries was down by 0.65 per cent to Rs 980.00, and SBI was down by 0.54 per cent to Rs 860.80.

The breadth in the broader market was in favour of 1532 advances as against 876 declines and 70 unchanged scrips, out of total 2478 scrips that traded the BSE counter today.
