SCR beat CE in Magnolia Basketball tourney

Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) The South Central Railway(SCR), who downed last year winners BSNL Chennai Telephones repeated their winning streak by defeating Central Excise(CE), Cochin in a closely contested match of the 28th All India ABC L&T Basketball tournament for Magnolia trophy held here today.

A release depicted the score reading 10-6 points in favour of CE in the first period. In the second period, they aided by some excellent shooting by Subhash Shenoy carried the team to a score of 33 points as against 26 of SCR.

Undaunted by the reverse, SCR took over the control of the game in the third period and soon they surged ahead, with the score board reading 63-60 points in their favour.

The game was interrupted due to heavy rains and when the game resumed, CE tried hard to wipe out the deficit of three points, but could not succeed. SCR emerged winners with 63-60 points and with two successive victories, remained on top of Group-A.

The Group-C match beween Western Railway and KSEB had to be abandoned mid-way through the second period on account of heavy rain. The three unfinished matches will be played tomorrow morning, the release added.
